Congrats to SRS alumni Clark and his owner- I hear they have moved up to Training level eventing this year and are doing great. I can imagine how much he must love eventing, he was always an eager horse with a lot of energy and class. Congrats also to Amy and SRS alumni Roy for getting published in late 2009 in a prominent eventing magazine! Here is Clark, doing his thing, WHOO-HOO!!!:

Congrats to myself for receiving an award from the Science Scholars Fund at OSU- this is in recognition by the College of Science for outstanding academic achievement, offered to a select few students each year. After working hard all these years to save for my college education, I am now one year away from my Zoology degree. Plans thereafter are for either graduate or professional school (or eventually both). Meanwhile, I have been working in the entomology lab on campus, teaching riding lessons to a great group of students, training horses, riding racehorses (although I have taken a break from that while I heal from an unrelated injury), riding endurance horses, riding my new event prospect, Alf, and enjoying my gorgeous surroundings! The change of scenery has been refreshing and wonderful.

On a sad note, KitKat passed away this May. KitKat was 21 years old, a wonderful feline companion who we had since she was a kitten and I a kid. She had jumped into my riding instructor's car at a gas station-- a story I have told countless times-- and found her way to us since the barn had enough cats! Thank-you Liz for giving us the greatest cat our family ever had. It is still hard to imagine life without KitKat, even though I no longer saw her every day, given our physical distance. She will always have a place in my heart, and to me, she will never be gone. Rest easy, old girl.

Thank-you again to the loyal souls who have stayed with us through the transition last year-- you made all the hard work worth it. I hope to see you again sometime soon, and please give Pal, Murphy, and Sadie a hug for me. :-)

November 2009
Where to start? Let's start with most recent:
Congrats to brothers Joe and John on their purchase of Nemo. Nemo, a lovely grey gelding with tastily correct conformation, was Margot's horse. She was sad to see him go, but we know Nemo has the opportunity to shine in his new home.
Congrats to Brielle and Cierra, and I love your video Brielle from the show before last!

Summer went very well, and was also very busy. We had a blast at camp, from relaxing trail rides to the more adrenaline-spiking gymkhana. Thanks to everyone who came, it was a lot of fun this year. Kelly had a lot of foals, and we really enjoyed seeing all the babies get so big so quickly! Rodie found a wonderful home with Kathleen, who purchased "Indy" from us (she renamed him) last year, (Indy is now a honking 17.2hh!). Kathleen was generous enough to invite Margot & I to her farm over the summer for us to ride together and visit the boys, something I really cherished.

Some of the girls at the barn got their first horse this year, a big step for anyone to take. I know that made the summer for them. :-) And, the lucky horse(s) cannot ask for more loving owners, that's for sure!

Last but not least, you may have noticed the updated "About Us" page in August. We have shifted the responsibilities of teaching, as I am not teaching currently. There have been changes to adapt to, and thank-you to everyone who has been with us through that adaptation. This is really a great program and we've worked hard to maintain it.

I hope everyone's Thanksgiving was merry. This year I went snowboarding, so no trail ride for me this year. I don't have Rodie anymore, but I have been riding the racehorses on weekends. It is a bit different than the world of horse showing, but in some ways, more challenging and less complicated. ;)
I will try to update soon with pictures of recent events. If you are curious as to what I've been up to, feel free to drop a line. I always love to hear from people!

May 2009

Wow!!!!!! Congrats to Cierra Telavera on sweeping the Short Stirrup Eq. AND Hunter divisions, winning TWO Grand Championships May 24th at Wits End "C" rated horse show! It is all coming together and your hard work & dedication is paying off!
Congrats to Julie Witt, on her FIRST show on Lady Sadie, getting some great ribbons (narrowly missing Reserve Champ) and completing a wonderful comeback during her first show of the season, on a NEW horse no less! You girls go!!!!!!!!!

For other farm news, Striding Right Stable is holding summer camp this summer: July 13-17 and July 20-24. If you would like to reserve your spot, please call or email for an information packet/deposit slip. Also, we will be holding our next seminar on June 13th. Our next horse shows are June 14 and July 5th - a few of you need to confirm your interest ASAP.

Congrats to Kelly, as the last of her beautiful foals have been born- all healthy and bright-eyed. I will post photos of the gorgeous farm and its lucky inhabitants soon!

Update - Important note to students and parents: This month's seminar has been scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, start time approx. 12PM.

A big congrats to Cierra and her wonderful progress with Pal! Despite a missing helmet and a change of plans for her division, Cierra pulled through and did an impressive job. Here is a link to their video from the "C" rated CJL show on March 15th: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y45WUe-dZj0
Keep up the great work! Thanks Nancy, Julie and Jenny Witt for your extra help (and for the donuts!). Julie, are we going to see you at the next show? ;-)

Congrats to Kelly on the healthy birth of her new foal, Bella, an adorable AQHA filly. Brielle, who is very talented with the camera, has been cataloging the foal's first few weeks (as well as making a really funny "nightmare" Breyer horse show video). And there are six more babies on the way!

We have started a new venture here at Striding Right Stable. We are now offering free monthly clinics about horse-related topics, open to current and prospective students and their families, with the aim to both educate and mentally stimulate during this social event. This month's topic was how to properly take care of your tack, where your saddle may have come from, what products to use, (and not use), etc. Next month we may do famous jumpers, or famous hunters - maybe we should take a vote? Or should we just do a clinic entirely on the importance of a rider's lower leg? Muahaha!

January 2009

Happy 2009 everyone! Happy & safe holidays to all. I have been divvying my time during winter break between horse showing and snowboarding, which I must say, is quite a fun way to pass the winter/holidays. We went to Woodedge today (1-10-09) with Rodie (Pre-Greens) and Lacey (Baby Greens). Both of them did very well and pinned in every class in good company. Rodie even got a 3rd in his last course, not bad for his first time in Pre-Greens. Here are some photos:

Ashley Sager, who bought Paddington from us a couple of years ago, emailed me recently with a fantastic update that she and Paddy are competing at the Preliminary level in eventing. Way to go Ashley and Paddy! We had both Paddy and his full older brother, Pogo, both very athletic wonderful boys. Here is an impressive photo of Ashley and Paddy, which I will move to the sold stories page when I have a chance:

Declan was sold recently-- to a very nice gal down in VA who also happens to be a great rider from what I have gathered. Declan, now known as "Reggie", is lucky enough to find himself in the middle of horse country and will probably experience Spring a lot sooner than we will. Congrats to Michelle and we've already heard "Reggie" is fitting in quite well!

Last but not least, for those of you who did not know, we have moved for the winter (and perhaps beyond), to a gorgeous new facility that features a huge 200x80' indoor arena, heated wash stall, private tack lockers, grass turn-out, big roomy matted stalls, and a really nice barn owner who Rodie is already in love with (he identifies "food lady" very quickly, what can I say?). We have several horses available for lease, reasonably priced lessons, all-weather riding, and a show schedule, what more can you ask for? :)
